Please Don't Hate Me Because I'm Ugly!

At The Crunchy Grocer we LOVE Ugly! So much so, we are partnering with small Northern Colorado farmers to bring you the freshest and the most purely grown produce we call it “MORganic™” - organic and beyond. Millions of pounds of produce is wasted every year because it is considered "ugly" by mainstream grocery stores: a cosmetic blemish, a unique shape or its character building size. It’s still perfect for eating, cooking and crunching, all at a price that makes beauty pale.  This means ugly is the new beautiful when it comes to lower priced, imperfect produce at The Crunchy Grocer! It saves you money, saves food waste and adds to our diverse selection of produce for your family.

Seasonal produce will be offered as ugly as we work with local farmers at the mercy of Mother Nature and her natural growing seasons. Know where your produce comes from, The Crunchy Grocer, Northern Colorado’s Emancipated Food Market.

The Crunchy Grocer Partners with SoapBox Soaps to Support Loveland-Based Alternatives to Violence

THE CRUNCHY GROCER PARTNERS WITH SOAPBOX SOAPS TO SUPPORT
LOVELAND-BASED ALTERNATIVES TO VIOLENCE

By simply purchasing soap, the community can support
individuals & families escaping domestic violence

LOVELAND, Colorado – [February 5, 2015] – The Crunchy Grocer, Northern Colorado’s emancipated food market™, is teaming up with SoapBox Soaps to support children and families working with Alternatives to Violence, a Loveland-based organization that educates and empowers victims, survivors, and the community to break the cycle of violence.  For each bar of SoapBox soap purchased at The Crunchy Grocer, SoapBox will donate an additional bar to Alternatives to Violence for their use in assisting individuals and families moving away from domestic violence.

“We’re excited to bring in SoapBox soap because the company is committed to changing lives through simple, every day purchases like soap,” says Chrissie Hall, health & beauty department supervisor at The Crunchy Grocer. “We want to offer our community great organic and natural products, and it’s even better when we can also support mission-based companies and local organizations.”

SoapBox Soaps is a mission-based personal care company founded in 2010 with the simple idea: help consumers change the world through quality purchases.  The company’s charitable giving spans four continents where access to clean water and basic hygiene necessities can be difficult.  Here in the United States, SoapBox focuses on helping families who are struggling by providing one less thing they have to worry about: access to soap.

“Often we must find emergency shelter and services for families in crisis, and even the smallest thing like soap helps these families,” says Glenda Shayne, Executive Director of Alternatives to Violence. “SoapBox’s donations are one more resource in our holistic approach to helping individuals and families as they move away from domestic violence; and we’re thankful that The Crunchy Grocer is supporting their mission.”

SoapBox bars are currently priced at $3.99 each and are available at The Crunchy Grocer located at 1461 E. Eisenhower Blvd. in Loveland.  More information about SoapBox can be found online at www.soapboxsoaps.com.

The Crunchy Grocer Rolls Out HowGood Sustainable Food Rating System

New on-the-shelf rating system helps consumers make informed decisions about the integrity & sustainability of food products

LOVELAND, Colorado – [Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015] – The Crunchy Grocer, Northern Colorado’s emancipated food market™, is excited to announce the rollout of its new HowGood labeling system designed to help customers identify products that are the best, most sustainable food products available.  The grocery shelves will feature new labels placed next to existing price tags which will help customers make more informed decisions about the environmental impact, social responsibility, and product integrity of the various food products.

“We’re excited to rollout our new on-the-shelf product labeling because we want our customers to feel confident in their decisions about the foods they’re purchasing and feeding their families,” says Jonas Buehl, co-founder and owner of The Crunchy Grocer.  “The new HowGood rating system is part of our ongoing commitment to help our community find the best food products.”

HowGood’s independent product ratings are based on an in-depth analysis of each food company’s environmental impact, social responsibility, and product integrity. More than 70 industry-specific metrics such as carbon footprint, sourcing and distribution, and charitable giving are used to score each product based on a scale of Good, Very Good, Great.

“Products that are tagged have better ingredients, better company standards, and don’t use harmful growing practices – which means they’re better for you,” says Missy Buehl, co-founder and owner of The Crunchy Grocer. “This is an ongoing process, so don’t be concerned if your favorite food item isn’t tagged yet.  We’ll add tags as we add new products and receive researched ratings from HowGood.”

The Crunchy Grocer will initially have nearly 4,000 food products tagged, and will continue to add more HowGood ratings as new products are added to the store. The HowGood rating system does not include non-food items such as vitamins and supplements, nor does it cover bulk bins and fresh produce. The Crunchy Grocer only carries 100% organic produce, so customers know they can count on the highest quality and cleanest fruits and vegetables.

Customers interested in learning more about the HowGood program can find information online at www.HowGood.com.

News Release: The Crunchy Grocer Encourages Community to "Get on Board with Bulk"

For Immediate Release

THE CRUNCHY GROCER ENCOURAGES COMMUNITY TO “GET ON BOARD WITH BULK” DURING 4th ANNUAL NATIONAL BULK FOODS WEEK EVENT, OCT. 12th - 18th

Week-long event highlight many economic and environmental advantages

to buying bulk foods; offers 25% discount on bulk purchases

LOVELAND, Colorado – October 9, 2014 The Crunchy Grocer, Northern Colorado’s emancipated food market™, will be participating in the 4th annual National Bulk Foods Week from October 12 – 18. The week-long event, titled “Get on Board with Bulk,” is designed to bring awareness and excitement to the many environmental and economic advantages to buying bulk foods.  To encourage the community to try out purchasing from bulk bins, The Crunchy Grocer is offering 25% off all bulk purchases during the week.

“Families can see a sizeable savings on their food budget when they regularly purchase from the bulk bins,” says Sarah Beek, Bulk Foods Buyer at The Crunchy Grocer. “Not only do you save money by only purchasing what you need, but you save money in packaging which positively impacts the environment. It’s an economical way to eat healthy and organic while staying within your food budget.”

Economic Savings

According to the Bulk Is Green Council, organic bulk foods on average cost 89% less than their packaged counterparts[1] with savings topping 300% in certain categories like tea and spices. By purchasing in the exact amount you need, consumers help decrease food waste while optimizing the value they receive at check-out.

Environmental Impact

Not only does purchasing food from bulk bins offer consumers financial savings, buying bulk also prevents significant amounts of product packaging from entering landfills.  For example, according to the Bulk is Green Council, if Americans purchased all of their almonds in bulk for one year, 72 million pounds of waste would be saved from a landfill.

The National Bulk Week celebration at The Crunchy Grocer will offer the community an introduction to buying from bulk bins and also offer them 25% off savings on their bulk purchases.  Additional information about the store’s bulk department can be found online at http://www.thecrunchygrocer.com/eat-crunchy.
